Nature's Dance
L'AND ART 2021 International Biennale of Andorra Loosely referring to the tribal and ritualistic aspects of Matisse’s Dance, six environmental artists from across the world collaborate to create this choreographed intervention. Each artist through immersion and synchronisation reconnects themselves with the rhythms and vibrations of their surrounding environmental living systems. They acknowledge our inseparable relationship with these living systems, being part of nature that continuously regenerates itself. Informed by Luhmann’s expanded theories of autopoiesis to include social and psychic systems. Though acknowledging the intrinsic power of nature to renew and heal itself, by engaging in this symbolic dance with nature, we also acknowledge the need of consciousness about the role humans have in the web of life. Project Description The six individual photographic depictions, created by each artist, are suspended from the ceiling in a circle. The dancing bodies are emblematic of their relationship with both their natural environments and each other. These images are printed onto semi translucent eco-silk, supported on slim acrylic rods. Due to their super light weight the images ripple gently in the surrounding air currents. |
